I say good riddance the ceo did his people a favor, may the coal industry die a quick death for it may employ 174,000 people (174,000 blue-collar workers, full-time, permanent jobs related to coal in the U.S.: mining 3,000), transportation (31,000), and power plant employment (60,000)) but this is an industry that is poisoning the country.
If we switch to another fuel source some of those jobs in power plant employment and transportation will still be there but it will be another energy source that is far better for america. Furthermore a 174,000 jobs is just a drop in a bucket in the national economy. Lowering the rate of cancer, asthma, and mercury in the environment is worth not having these 174,000 jobs.
Thank God man is an ingenious animal, we find better ways to do things, and we will find a better energy source than coal.
Edit: Added the last sentence.
