it's hard to say romney would have been better when he took every side of every issue moondog Send a noteboard - 07/11/2012 07:10:25 PM
i mean, if he had been consistent throughout the last 7 years he's run for president i could see your point. the problem is, he's been running for president for 7 years! clearly the only thing romney cares about is being president, not solving any of the country's many problems. watching him throughout this election cycle, it was kind of obvious he felt the presidency was his birthright or that he was entitled to it somehow. totally agree that if he had only spelled out his actual positions instead of saying "well, obama's doing a terrible job but i know how to do it better" for everything.

also, even though it wasn't much of a big issue for the election, i think his refusal to release his tax returns -- a tradition started by his own father who he supposedly idolizes -- was the beginning of his veil of secrecy, imho. he pretty much just went around saying "i can't tell you how i'll make it better but you should trust me anyway". there was a great webcomic about this which i've linked below. i know it's hard to boil down nuances in politics to web comic format, but this one pretty much sums up mitt's run at the presidency. i honestly would have been ok with a romney presidency if he could have only defined what he stood for and didn't resort to lying about things when it suited his campaign.

Good points all. Somehow I don't really think they'll take them to heart any time soon, though... - 07/11/2012 08:00:56 PM 825 Views

Chris Christie *was* far more likely. I expect his party to eat him alive after Sandy. - 07/11/2012 09:59:17 PM 893 Views
Yes, but Christie gained the respect of a lot of moderates for that. - 07/11/2012 10:20:08 PM 733 Views
