Thing is, I usually don't even realize I've said it. It'll be when my friends just stare at me or otherwise react that I realize I'd used "bloody" or something (but, I probably get that as much from WoT as anything else, since I've been reading the danged series for 20 years or so (half my life!).
And calling it a flat is so much easier and quicker than saying apartment. BLAH! I hate typing that word too. I think I actually started using flat in text messages and IMs before I was saying it.
Posh? I just like the word. I don't actually say it out loud often if at all, but it gets used by my stream of consciousness voice most of us have.

I use very few of those terms and thankfully, I'm not a "Yank" or "Yankee"

I may be wrong, but I believe it's called a football because it's 12-inches long.

Using a non-Metric system of measurement is total nonsense.

I don't think so. Has to do with its historical origins in rugby football. *NM*

Regulation balls are shorter than that, and "gridiron" is an unambiguous international term.
