"The vast majority of conservative Christians are not hateful bigots at all." - Edit 1

What about the majorities electing legislators specifically to pass laws against homosexuals (and majorities passing referenda imposing such laws)?

The rest of that article did not make it sound like the bigoted self-professed Christians he met were a minority. He lost many supposed "friends" and his own mother wished he were "merely" dying (though context means a lot there; I can understand the logic in saying losing ones life is preferable to losing ones soul.) This strikes me more as denial and/or excuses for bigots masquerading as Christians than as a genuine criticism or epiphany: Because one Liberty University alum pretended to be gay for a year and will likely make a tidy sum off his own version of "Black Like Me" most fundies are not bigots (notwithstanding that passing so many anti-gay laws gay marriage ballot measures in OH and other swing states probably re-elected George Bush.) After all, some of his best new friends are gay.
