Yeah, I saw Republicans are going after Obama with "your dead mother was a whore" now; classy. - Edit 1

Obama's mother had a thing for exotic spouses, and happened to get pregnant by a guy who bequeathed Obama the skin tone and features that would be his greatest political advantage, as well as insulation from any backlash on several instances of outright racist behavior. No white candidate could get away with the barest minimum of association with a demagogue as anti-black or anti-immigration as Jeremiah Wright was anti-American. No white official could get away with flagrantly choosing sides based on skin color in an off-the-cuff comment as with the Henry Louis Gates fiasco. No white politician could survive as nakedly racist a position as his comment that "if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon Martin." Obama was flat out taking sides based solely on the skin color of the alleged victim/assailant. White politicians are drummed out of office for making a birthday speech praising Strom Thurmond's failed presidential run more than fifty years previously, on grounds of racism. Despite voting for a Civil Rights act future Democratic heroes LBJ & Sam Ervin disparaged.
Care to elaborate? Trent Lott was not elected to Congress until well after the LBJ secured passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Strom Thurmond staged the longest one-man filibuster in history against the Civil Rights Act of 1957, so I honestly have no idea wtf you were talking about in that last sentence.
What is more, even the most left-wing apologists for the media cannot deny that they will blatantly shade their coverage in order to get a better story, and Obama ran for nomination without any serious political experience, in a year the Democrats were all but assured of the election. The First Black President was far too good a story to pass up, and even the supposedly impartial moderator of the VP debate had a contract for a book about "Politics in the Age of Obama."
I will grant much of that, with the understanding it is not "liberal media bias," but "greedy media sensationalism;" Titillating stories sell soap, dry policy debates do not: The market picks the winner, and it ain't PBS. During the six years the media aided and abetted Republicans investigating Clinton for the sake of doing it I chalked that up to their adversarial relationship with government, and maybe that was it in the brief early months before the Whitewater "investigation" collapsed into the nothing it always was. The next five years of Clintons consensual sex with Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky was just selling titillation.
As for the Ryan race, that revelation by the Chicago Tribune was almost certainly the work of Obama's campaign manager, a former employee of the Tribune. The paper itself induced a judge to unseal the records mutually sealed by both Jeri & Jack, in a far more egregious violation of privacy than Bill Clinton being "forced" to lie about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. Furthermore, the allegations were unsubstantiated claims made in a child custody suit, not part of the divorce proceedings. The alleged misdeeds by Ryan were not even very sinful, if at all, by his own Catholic religion (asking your wife for sex is pretty much an obligation of Catholic husbands, and not even Jeri Ryan tried to claim he did anything other than take no for an answer), but he was running for an office Obama sought, and leading in the polls, so the Chicago Democratic machine, with that honest and fair electoral strategy they are so well known for, publicized private personal information against the mutual wishes of a divorced couple and magnified highly dubious claims of minimal offense against the virtue of a woman whose greatest claim to fame was wearing a skin-tight silver leotard on national television, in a transparent ploy to sexually entice viewers to watch a failing spinoff.
And Obama would not even have been running against Ryan, if the exact same thing had not been done to his Democratic primary opponent, with sealed divorce records being publicized and exaggerated to portray the front-runner as a wife-beater, and IIRC, force him to spend a debate responding to obsolete allegations.

You know the Catholic catechism better than I, but I know no Old or New Testament passage that affirms wife-swapping as holy. Consenting adults can do what they wish with each other whether I approve or not, but when they base an election campaign on their righteous Christian values their wife-swapping becomes relevant.
If Romney wasn't running such an inept campaign, Obama would be really fucked, what with how racist he claims this country is (imagine, people having the audacity to shoot a thug jock who is pounding their heads into the pavement! Only racism could explain such a thing, after all, he looked just like the son Obama might have sired), and the fact that he's running against a man with no divorce records to unseal!
Yes, if the GOP had even one decent presidential candidate in the whole party Obama would be toast; he is lucky ya'll have such "unlucky" policies and candidates.
