Bet they said the same thing before ending military segregation too.

As you said, people will be people. But if they can't be professional enough to control themselves, then perhaps they shouldn't be on a submarine period.

It's not like we're at naval war and the submarines are constantly patrolling for the threat of U-Boats. Yes, they are doing a very important job and yes, it could very well create problems if there was tensions on the submarine. But it's not like if Sergeant Suzy boned Private Patrick and they're speaking only in clipped sentences to each other, we're going to start world war three.

I simply think completely disregarding the idea on the premise of "oh there might be DRAMA" is weak, not to mention showing a decided lack of faith in the professionalism of the military. If they try it and there are problems...okay. Fine. But not trying it all together is just plain ridiculous.
