I'm not a fan of apple, but I'm prepared to recognize that in previous generations their phones were superior to the competition. Now though, with the iphone 5's weirdly stretched out rectangular form, and lack of anything to really set it apart from the competition, I think it's finally beginning just another member of the pack - albeit a top member, and with a quite rabid fanbase.
iPhone 5 anybody?

No. I do need a smartphone sooner or later, but I have no intention of buying an iPhone.

I have little need of any smartphone, but the FoxConn stories preclude me ever buying that one.

Why would it be simpler? Most popular apps are cross-platform.

If I could make my wife do things she doesn't want to that would be way down the list

They did what they had to, and no more. There is nothing exciting about the iPhone 5.
