The general "homosexuality is a sin/evil/whatever" just generally strikes me as inane, homophobic and plain idiotic.

Kind of like love, love, loving a mistress? Most complaints I hear about this area have to do with memememe-type feelings. If I took this same approach in other areas, I'd scarcely be following Christ at all. This, consequently, is what a lot of nominal Christians look like. (we all do it from time to time, to varying extents) We love to give Jesus a good hour or two on Sunday for church, maybe not even that, then compartmentalize Him for the rest of the week. "Dear Jesus: You can have these two hours. Rock them out! But, the rest of the week is mine, so don't touch my stuff or my relationships."
It's got more to do with setting aside our own perceived 'ME rights' or desires and seeking those found in Christ and taught in scripture. When one is doing that, this issue simply doesn't line up.

I agree. Just because the church did it doesn't mean it follows Christ's teachings. *NM*
