The republican party's biggest shift is toward the libertarian, on what issue has the GOP gotten 'far too out of hand'? We've stopped pushing for larger military spending, we're easing of foreign intervention, we've gotten a lot more relaxed on both drugs and gay rights, and we haven't moved an inch on guns or abortion while the country has shifted more pro-life and more pro-gun.

The clear rejection of vitriolic types like Bachmann and Santorum and the general non-interest in anything Sarah Palin has had to say by the general public and the GOP alike also support this. Even looking at Romney's vetting fo VP candidates show a shift toward more traditional conservative leanings with a touch of Libertarianism rather than to the far right extremes of xenophobia religious extremism.
But wine was the great assassin of both tradition and propriety...
