I disagree with you. It very easily could have felt like an impossible situation, and perception is reality. I would imagine that even in a well-lit, less chaotic location it still takes quite enough courage to stand up to someone already actively using their weapon(s). It seems to me* that normal people, or even someone who knows how to use a gun to shoot at targets, would be much more hesitant to fire w/o clear shots (I know you made the case for him being a clear shot, I'm just not in agreement), over and around the running, screaming strangers...

These are real people, with real fears, and I do not think it is right of us to be using speculation about their reactions (or lack thereof) to break down the gun rights case, though, of course, I know why it is happening.

(* I am absolutely not trying to claim that I know best, I'm just trying to put myself in their shoes a bit. I fear my reaction would not have been pretty, and even knowing I know how to handle and shoot a gun is not making me feel my chances would have been better. I'm one of those normal people who knows what guns are about - not highly trained, but not ignorant either)
