I would say Tennessee is "Texas East," but since we actively use "East Texas" to distinguish from West/South/North/Central Texas, that would just be confusing.

I was unaware of the tail heating; also interesting.

I read about it a few years ago and found it fascinating (it also serves to keep them cool in the summer and warmer in the winter, based on how the tail is placed).

That is somewhat fascinating, yes. Odd little creatures, they are, wholly apart from the whole "fluffy rats with good PR" thing. And they have been known to assault people in Austin but, having met people in Austin, I hardly blame them.
