We talked about this a bit in a recent(ish) book board post, but since this letter seems to be getting attention on the 'nets, I thought I would link it. No matter what people think of Tolkien, they might still like the zingy reply.
Now, that was a BAMF reply; an exceptionally polite BAMF reply, but a BAMF reply all the same. He spanked'em good and proper!
