I agree that it's an important civic duty, I just think it has a terrible supporting system.

Consider this: Jury duty costs more in both time and money than getting multiple speeding tickets. Serving justice in one's community has a more significant negative impact to an individual than endangering the lives of many people on a public road. How can that possibly be right? Fixing the system completely is probably not realistic, but a few minor changes would go a long way. Heck, just allowing people to postpone their service a few times without having to get the court's permission would solve the biggest problems. I nearly had to miss a ten day cruise with my family and new in-laws this past Christmas because of jury duty. Thankfully the court accepted my excuse, but they didn't have to.
Build a little flexibility into the system, eliminate what minor annoyances you can, and people would be a lot less upset about receiving a summons.

You really shouldn't be posting opinions about a legal case that is underway.

A mistrial can be declared for a juror simply making a conclusion?

It's perfectly understandable for people to avoid jury duty.

I have no problem with the giving of thanks, only the giving of, uh, scoffs.
