He's winning in landslides not because people like him--many Republicans are in fact disgusted with the way in which he's haphazardly gutted the state university system--but because the Democrats have nobody with any name recognition or organization to run against him.
A familiar state of affairs, to be sure.
By standards of governors of that state, which is arguably worse than Illinois, a person's doing fairly well if they remember not to show up for public rallies wearing Klan robes and holding a bag with a $ on it, although they do seem amazingly bipartisan about it. It isn't like Edwin Edwards was the rare bad egg or something. I mean, outsider POV and all, but it strikes me that Jindal's probably one of the only governors the state has had who didn't actually qualify as an embarrassment.
