He needs to learn to pick a horse and ride it instead of starting from a compromised position then fleeing to the right when they attack it. That scores no points and allays no fears with them, it just ensures the liberal base vital to his re-election is as enraged as the conservative base waiting for the GOP to tell them who to elect.

In this case, I happen to think it wrong to force private, particularly religious, institutions with a stated opposition to contraception to nonetheless pay for it. I would like a little clarification; an HHS "policy" or "rule" is not a federal LAW, so I am unsure what we are talking about here. Is it something that truly requires religious employers to pay for contraception, or another one of those "the feds partially fund you and you will not receive that money unless you do x" deals?

Politically though Obama is just doing another masterful job making the worst of a bad situation and outraging the entire political spectrum with a single issue.
