You know better than I why they ARE split; if/when RAFO has as many members as wotmania did, particularly if they post as much as wotmanias did in its prime, merging the half dozen MBs into two or three will be an unwieldy disaster. It may be that day can never come without a temporary merger, but unless it could be easily undone (I got the impression the initial split was a ginormous headache but, again, you know better than I) it would probably cause big regrets, however necessary.
We are, maybe on a good day, at about 1/10 of what wotmania had in traffic and activity at it's prime. There are some MB separations that make sense, but RAFO has far too many different MBs. All it accomplishes is segregating our small traffic and activity all the further, driving down interest, participation, and cross-topic activity, while increasing separation of community and effort.
It is potentially a frustrating Catch 22: If combining the MBs results in more activity, which draws more interest and members, stimulating further activity, in a year or two we could find ourselves in the same situation that prompted splitting wotmania into the format RAFO chose to emulate. On the other hand, without such a MB merger the segregated MBs could become so fractured and stagnant activity peters out to nothing.
Again, it is pretty clear which is the greater threat at present, but were it my decision (which it definitely is not) I would hesitate to make any large scale change I could not easily un-make at need. Website architecture has come a long way in the last decade, so maybe that is not a great concern, but as a rule (which, like all such, has exceptions) major commitments should not be lightly made.
