That really is the bottom line. Joel Send a noteboard - 23/01/2012 05:24:57 AM
if everybody just quit buying their shit it wouldn't take that long before their factories started closing and their society would be in chaos as now their youth has had a taste of a little prosperity they would quickly turn on their government if it were taken away from them. But, you know how it goes, daddy needs a new electronic toy and mama needs more trinket arts and crafts to decorate her house. So, China keeps rolling and growing.

I would not say it really cracks me up, but it is a life-long study in the absurd for me. When I was a kid people complained about unions AND foreign imports, seemingly incapable of seeing the connection between refusing to buy products made by American unions and the rising American sales of foreign made products. Now that I am grown they have graduated to complaining about their job being outsourced to China while they buy Chinese products to "save" money, again as if there is absolutely no connection at all.

We may literally be too stupid (or at least shortsighted) to live. :[

I am still unsure how much real "prosperity" their youth is enjoying though. The children of senior party officials and factory directors (to the extent there is a difference) may be well enough off, but they always were.

These Apple employees in China, however, do not seem to be enjoying themselves.
