I like the whole "Fuckin' Sale" part, but the more I read, the more I think to myself, "Oh, it's just the Japanese being weird in a not-so-good way". I end the fuckin' log thinking that I'm glad I never spent any appreciable time on the Japanese language.
Some of their writers are really good, like Oe and Murakami, but on the whole, I'm strangely reluctant to even consider learning how to read Japanese. It may just be that their appropriation of Anglo-American culture is so twisted that it feels "wrong" to see it (similar to how I see certain portrayals in American media of stereotypes of a few ethnic groups).

Japan manages to hit the right line between weird and offensive that they actually turn me off.

Ever read anyone out of the Kyoto School like Keiji Nishitani? He did Religion and Nothingness.
