Like I said, check Obamas numbers any time in the last year and a half.

It's not really worth debating the future but you have to at least be aware that Obama is extremely popular, in spite of any missteps or hurdles. Maybe if you're surrounded by people who don't like Obama it's easy to forget just how many supporters he has? 25,000 people in Iowa (that's approximately the same number of people who voted for Romney) showed up to the Demacratic Caucus although Obama was running unopposed just to show their support for the campaign and sign up to volunteer.
His approval rating is hovering in the low 40s, which is not "extremely popular." Even a lot of people who like him personally dislike his policies (or lack thereof.) And, no, I am not surrounded by people who dislike him; I am surrounded by people who gave him the Nobel Peace Prize. Maybe if you live in the birthplace of Occupy Wall Street it is easy to miss just how UNpopular he is everywhere else?
His best shot is for the Republicans to nominate one of the many reactionary bigots running against Romney; unfortunately, the folks who actually RUN the Republican Party know that, too, and the rank and file who despise Romney are hopelessly split between Paul, Perry, Gingrich, Cain and now Santorum (Santorum, really? That should tell you how hopeless their chance of avoiding Romney is.) I am not saying Romney will beat him, but I would not want to bet either way. American politics is in a pretty sad state when whether ANYONE can beat Mitt Romney is such a large question.
Obamas Gallup approval rating managed to creep over 45% in the last few weeks (it is currently at 46%, only 1 point behind his disapproval rating)

In Rasmussens more partisan poll, he is currently 44/55:
