I'm not getting any driving experience except with the instructor. My parents refuse to take me driving on the streets. They have a point- the instructor has that brake and has experience with student drivers. If anyhing were to happen, it's on him and the driving school.
I can't fault them entirely, especially if it's their vehicle.
This sounds great in theory but I really don't see the "country road practice" thing happening. Even if I had a theoretical person that's willing to drive with me, how would I get there in order to have my lesson?
They drive out there, then you take over. Seems simple to me.
I do my best to concentrate and observe everything but it's really hard. (It goes without saying that I'm not going to be talking on the phone while driving) I know I don't notice everything I should be and I make mistakes but as it is I'm exhausted towards the end of the lesson. I don't concentrate this hard on math tests.
That's okay, beginnng drivers don't notice everything. It all comes with experience. The more you drive, the better driver you'll be and the less scary the experience becomes.
I've never been to NYC, but I always hear that one doesn't need a car to get around, with the subways and enormous amount of taxis. But at some point, I'd guess someone would need to go somewhere outside the city. Being able to do it yourself by driving seems like the best scenario to me. Also, knowing that you can drive off to anywhere gives a nice feeling of freedom. Keep practicing. Years from now, you'll probably wonder what all the fuss was about.

Seriously? Why? At 13 you should have had some awareness of the danger you were posing to others

Probably just a difference in perspective. Kids sneaking a vehicle for a jor ride is pretty common.
