It sounds like a fun tradition and if you can give me a recipe that doesn't call for nasty candied fruit I might actually making it.
As I said above, I don't like the stuff at all personally, but for a recipe, try the one linked below. It's pretty much the quintessential British Christmas cake. I believe you're then supposed to feed it brandy for a few weeks, then coat it in a layer of marzipan and a layer of fondant icing.
And what kind of pie would you have at Christmas?

Pumpkin, Pecan, or Chocolate Pecan.
This sounds eminently more sensible to me. Mmmm pie.

My family's Christmas is Second Thansgiving, but with bonus desserts. Mostly pie, cookies, and candy *NM*

Or rather... Fifth Thanksgiving. Thanksgivings 2, 3, and 4 are all about Thanksgiving 1 leftovers. *NM*

We have different icing. It is not typically a very dense, flat sheet of solid icing. Like fondant.

There are other birds which it's "acceptable" to eat at Christmas, other than turkey.

Fruitcake, I guess. But we don't coat it with disgusting icing. And it's not really cake. *NM*
