My family - as in the one I grew up in - just tends to discuss some time in early December what we'd like to have at Christmas and pick something we all like the sound of. Last year we had venison. This year so far it's a toss up between venison again (because last year's was so nice) or just some really nice steak.

I am confused. Do Americans not do cake at Christmas?

My family's Christmas is Second Thansgiving, but with bonus desserts. Mostly pie, cookies, and candy *NM*

Or rather... Fifth Thanksgiving. Thanksgivings 2, 3, and 4 are all about Thanksgiving 1 leftovers. *NM*

We have different icing. It is not typically a very dense, flat sheet of solid icing. Like fondant.

Plus with loads of brandy used to "feed" the cake over the month before you ice it.

There are other birds which it's "acceptable" to eat at Christmas, other than turkey.

Fruitcake, I guess. But we don't coat it with disgusting icing. And it's not really cake. *NM*
