Writing past 3 AM is not going to lead to clear connections, sometimes Larry Send a noteboard - 24/11/2011 10:22:34 AM
1) Buy a premium account so Ben can continue to pay for the server.

I will not pay over $20 for something that I get at other boards for free.

That's the thing. Everyone begged for someone to do something to keep wotmania's community alive in some form, and then when Ben steps up to the plate, puts in a fuck load of work, no-one wants to pay to make sure it remains. I really hate that. Annoys the hell out of me and I don't think it's fair.

Ben has to do something to encourage people to buy the premies, and one of those things is offering functionality that people want - for a price. It's fair enough. If he doesn't pay for the server the site dies. If that's what people want then fine, don't pay. However, if people want this community to stay alive then why should they not contribute? What's $20 per year?

I understand the feeling, but I think a semiannual Kickstarter "contribute this much to keep the bandwidth purchased for 6-12 months" might get more responses, since it'd be more visible. True, there still wouldn't be any real functionality worth paying $20 on, but at least that might help with the money flow without seeing those damn "monkey" and "pirate" ads :P

2) Block the Politics category, if you don't want to see it, or any other category that annoys you.

I think you missed the thrust of my post.

Nah, this was more of a response to the constant whining that a select few make.

I suppose, but it was easy to think it was directed at me this particular time :P

3) Post something interesting and different instead of whining about how boring it all is on the Board.

I wouldn't know about posting anything interesting and different, or at least anything that gets a response from the people I reference in other posts ;)

I'm pregnant. I forget things. :|

I thought you forgot stuff before then ;)

4) Get involved more - look around the Boards, share things that interest you.

Uh...uh...something tells me launching a squirrel invasion will not be all that popular here.

I dunno. People here are kerazy.

Well, the hardest part is that 90% of the people I used to be close to (and in most cases are still) no longer are active here, so it isn't as much fun writing weird surveys, spamming posts with quotes from 80s and 90s pop culture, or making some think that quasi-BDSM was going on. So many serious people these days.

After all, isn't that what it's all about?

Nope. It was an admonishment more than anything else.

I suspect that if you want to admonish certain people you need to be more bald about it. Hints hardly ever work.

I remain unconvinced a few voices can drown out the rest in an internet environment. - 25/11/2011 12:41:05 AM 665 Views

Probably the easiest solution is to have a filter instead, save the new board for a "Writers Board" - 24/11/2011 06:47:33 AM 512 Views
