I would not go that far. Joel Send a noteboard - 23/11/2011 07:09:22 AM

The graphic made it seem like the two problems were equal, whereas I do not see a problem with expansive government power so much as excessive government neglect of laws against corporate exploitation it instead enables. It's like saying, "George Washington needs to understand that the REAL problem is not Benedict Arnolds treason or the British fighting the war, but our generals taking bribes to help the British." True as far as it goes, but the whole thing is the result of an enemy paying a supposed ally to ignore its duty and let said enemy exploit the power it already had, not the two of them empowering each other. Replacing the treacherous ally with a loyal one would solve that problem, but eliminating the allys position altogether would just give the enemy free rein to run amok.

The image said that OWS doesn't really mind expansive government, and that Tea Party doesn't mind expansive corporations, but they both agree that the current interaction between corporations and government is bad news.
Obviously I agree with that, but also think it is pretty clear who has ascendancy in that relationship. Removing government from the equation will not solove the root problem; in fact, since only the government has the authority to hold irresponsible industries accountable, it would be declaring open season on the American public. To the extent we have not already done that, of course. ;)
