Peter Roebuck died, by his own hand, in Cape Town South Africa at the weekend. He was 55.
The attached link will start the tale for you.
Peter was a cricket columnist in my daily newspaper, and a commentator on cricket on my local radio station. His words were golden.
I have spent many hours being lulled by his mellifluous tones discussing the minutiae of cricket during interruptions to the game caused by rain. In this he followed in the huge footsteps of people such as John Arlott and Trevor Bailey, to whose words on cricket I listened while studying for University Examinations way back when.
I will miss his presence. RIP Peter.
