A month or so ago I posted about going to Boston to ask a Texan permission to marry his daughter. I was not dropped into Boston Harbor, but rather was given his blessing. A while ago I got ahold of the ring she wanted, and so the time was coming to ask her to marry me.
Now she has been completely informed in every aspect of this marriage process so far, which really is a good thing. It's something that we are walking into together. All the same, though, I wanted there to be SOME element of surprise in the process, and so when I found a weekend when she wasn't working, I grabbed tickets to fly up to Atlanta, where she is now, and propose. And I didn't tell her I was coming.
I got some of her friends to take her out to dinner that night, and it became a little bit of a fiasco. She started making plans to drive down to see me in Florida, and that would have been a disaster, and as her friends did what they could to keep her in town, I made my other arrangements. I wanted it to be BIG.
So I contacted an actor friend of mine in Atlanta, and got him to bring another friend to the dinner that her friends had invited her to. They sat at another table and kept their heads down until "All the Single Ladies" by Beyonce came on. Then they jumped up and started dancing. Rose didn't even notice them until some of her friends started dancing too, all the while unaware that I was lurking in the back of the restaurant, nervous as hell, with a ring.
Follow the link to see how it went down, or to see my crazy awesome overweight white boy moves. You'll see friends of mine recording, but I still haven't seen those. The link is from a woman who was sitting at another table, who was not with the party and didn't know us from Adam. Still, based on the screaming, I think they enjoyed it all...
