As far as we know the reason we don't see anyone else out there is that a species aggressive enough to advance this far is too aggressive to sustain it. Or maybe societies like ours either use up all the cheap energy in a flash and go out in a blaze fighting over what is left or they learn to control their populations, life small and stay at home and keep quite.



Well the odds- you haven't visited 15 trillion planets so you can't say that we're the only ones that beat the odds. You really only know of the planets in the solar system. I definitely agree that the odds are extremely low but there are also a whole lot of chances for it to happen.

But I really like your point about aggression and the blaze of glory thing. I think it's possible that theory covers it and explains why it's practically impossible that civilizations in different star systems would ever meet.
