I still agree with the view they are unlikley to intentionally punish us.

And, yes, this thread is eerily reminiscent of when Isaac and I threadjacked Camillas posting of the article suggesting advanced ETs might "punish" us for Global Warming (frankly, that sounds like someone who watched the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" too many times. )
."

Well if that post that was meant to be about the possibility of advanced aliens punishing us and it was hijacked by a discussion of fossil fuels then it's only fair that the opposite takes place here.
They might be a bit disgusted, but a greatly advanced race seems more likely to drop clean energy rich fusion in our laps, recycle our atmosphere, remove all our fossil fuels or a dozen other options than inflict some punishment on us. It would be a touch hypocritical for hippy vegan aliens to unleash the wrath of Zod on primitive species and cultures, though I suppose man might not have a monopoly on hypocrisy. Predatory aliens would hardly be a shock, but punitive ones seem counterproductive to any benevolent or symbiotic ethos.

Well just look at the history of Earth. And the cultural/advancement disparity would be FAR greater. *NM*

In one particular space opera, it's a mix and probably the best situation possible for humans.

Unless their advancement is so great they are VERY ethically enlightened, her fears seem valid.
