animal diseases, particularly unknowns like prions, have a nasty nasty habit of jumping into humans. In fact, a large number of the major diseases plaguing the world today are zoonotic diseases, and I believe ALL of the major emerging human diseases are zoonotic. Which is why the government is constantly trying to con us vets into working for them for research.
As for prions, I like to shuffle how dangerous they are away into the back of my mind where I can draw on the knowledge if necessary, but don't have to constantly live my life in fear that there might be brain goo on some animal that happens to kill me with horrible neurological disease. I'm exaggerating a bit...but am I?
