Partly that's because I don't want the cops knocking on my door asking for an explanation and to examine my possessions, but part of it's because I don't want some whackjob to take something I say as an excuse for committing some horror. It should go without saying that I hold people in the public eye (such as media personalities and elected officials) to at least as high a standard; too bad they don't always hold themselves to that standard. Yes, I use rhetoric intended to engage peoples emotions and motivate them to action--PEACEFUL POLITICAL action, nothing that could be construed to even vaguely endorse or promote violence. I'm not saying it's never happened, but if/when it has it wasn't for lack of trying to avoid it, and if you've got an example in mind I'll take my lumps and apologize for it if only to make VERY clear that violence can only be justified as a defence against and in proportion to violence, not as some warped form of political action. I don't put crosshairs on people, and when I learned that leftist groups were using bullseyes in the same way I objected just as strongly for the same reasons, because it's not about left/right, it's about public safety and not endangering the lives of political opponents just to score partisan points.
