All the search engines are doing it (or: all the big ones).
To comment on your main post: internet farming has three megafarmers in the future: Apple, Facebook, and Google, and amongst the three I entirely support Google, followed by Apple, followed (in my idealistic version) far, far in the back, crippled, drunk, and blind, by Facebook.
So yeah, Google isn't exactly pure - but Facebook is Darth Vader on bath salts with a nuclear lightsaber.
