Re: I have been keeping an eye on it; we have friends in Highbury

I have been trying to avoid the opinion pieces saying why this has occurred, but the opinions sort of leak through. Seems not much has changed since I lived in London in early Victorian times. Not enough education, not enough opportunity exacerbated by a degree of discrimination. No solutions apart from passive ghetto-isation.
Some of it is the same but I think there have been changes as well - I think perception plays more of a role now. The discrimination is more imagined than real now for example, as well as the increasing wealth divide at the same time as the life styles of the wealthy being advertised as something people should have.
I note with admiration the actions of the Turkish community around Stoke Newington in guarding what was their's to guard, and other communities in London and elsewhere that stood up to the looting gangs.
That along with the mass clear ups has been really good to see. Though I've some reservations about some of the groups last night - seeing a mass of white blokes chanting "Ingerlaaand" does hint towards new problems, along with rumours another group were shouting racist abuse as they chased of youths.
Lucky looters. Any other country and they would have been trying to outrun a speeding bullet, not a group of police with 30 kg of riot gear apiece.
I would like to suggest that the courts impose a novel punishment on those who are caught and found guilty. After they have helped clean up the mess, they can all get deported to Syria. Or Pakistan. And then maybe they will realise how lucky they are to live in a society they so willingly trash.
We tried that. Years later the swine came back to beat us at our own sports and sell us horrible beer and even worse soap operas. We do NOT need a repeat of that!
My sympathies to everyone affected by these events.
