I live about 30 minutes outside Houston and have for 18 years, when I'm not away for school. Don is nothing to worry about, even for those in Corpus. The biggest problem will be falling tree limbs because they are all dead, because of lack of rain. It actually rained here today, barely sprinkled, and I don't know if it was wind or what, but a huge tree fell just a few feet from our house, knocking the satellite dish off, but thankfully missing the roof. I predict this will be the biggest problem with Don, falling trees, because so many are dead and the wind will be the thing to fell them.
Driving into town, you see all these black spots in fields and along the road, from brush fires. Just 2 blocks away a few weeks ago, a huge fire spread across many fields and we almost had to evacuate our home because it was so close.
If I had to pick between barely contained fires, especially like the ones in east and west Texas, and a tropical storm, I pick Don!

You know the drought is getting bad when people start praying a tropical storm hits them
