Bioethics material (Scott Gilbert text and pubmed) shaiel Send a noteboard - 04/07/2011 03:22:46 AM
More specifically the ethical issues about stem cell research and the laws involving the research also. This is all for a report for my Biology class that I have been putting off for too long. Any suggestions?

P.S. The ideal book would be easy to understand and relatively easy to read in a short amount of time.

P.P.S. I'm also posting on the books message board just in case.

This text is short, engaging and FACTUAL. Check it out! Gilbert is an embryologist who, IMO, treats the issues with sensitivity and evaluates issues/future directions from a discerning scientific perspective. A quick browse on Amazon indicates that you may find a lot of one-sided information (or opinions masquerading as information). Gilbert provides information from a research/clinical/scientific policy point-of-view but also evaluates the social, religious and political complexities and clearly desires an honest and informed compromise between researchers, patients and tax-payers. (It's not a one-sided book - as if this issue is one-sided! *glare at Amazon results page*)

Also, you should do a pubmed search for some scientific reviews.

This one came up first and the refs look good. It's obviously a great deal more in-depth than the Gilbert book, but perhaps you need some very specific data or research. You might search more or crossref as suits your purposes. :)
