You don't have to be a big fan to acknowledge it's at least very nearly as good, and free.

In my experience Office's superiority is mostly in cosmetic stuff, but then at times cosmetics can be important enough when making documents or spreadsheets, so okay. But it comes at the price of the compatibility issues, and of course, you know, the price.
Hm. Maybe I should see if GOG has that instead of HoMM 4, then... I don't care that much for the loss in graphics quality. HoMM 3 is a great game, in any case, and yes, rather well-balanced. Some units are crap, but that's true for any game, and just about all town types are viable one way or another. The lack of balance, which I must say HoMM4 improves on drastically, is in the hero skills, some of which are absurdly much more useful than others. It's not a good sign that it can be necessary to keep restarting maps until you get a hero with the right skills.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is great, I prefer it to HoMM 3 for it is simpler (not neccessary easier, but less needlessy complicated) also the art style is completely different. HoMM3 though is a lot more balanced when it comes to the strength of town types (Knights and Barbarians suck in HoMM2, sorcerers are good for early games but there creatures are weaker thus you hit hard and fast and hope you do not get hit back. Warlocks and Wizards are easily the strongest towns the longer the game progresses.)
