They might be reading glasses only, or she could have eyes that were so far gone that laser surgery is not an option.

Oh, I understand there are very good and reasonable reasons. I just don't think that presentation wise, you'd want to put a woman with glasses at the reception of an eye laser clinic.

Yes, most of the time.

Me all the time. Well, unless I'm under the shower or in bed.

My best friend is like that. Well, she uses contact in everyday life, but glasses when she has to. I have seen her once without them since 1st grade, and she could barely move around the room.

I do not have to, but I do. I get headaches from reading if I don't. What I use is actually reading glasses, but I keep forgetting to take them off. Doesn't really matter, as I read all the time anyway.

Sounds like it's very minor. But certainly important, for someone who reads as much as you do.

Yes.

Quite good. I'm hypomyopic, (I don't remember the English word... farsighted? ... the opposite of myopic, anyway), only +0-75 or some such.

Sounds easy to live with.

It is.

No. I like glasses.

Fair enough. What do you like about them?

I don't know. The weight on my nose. The feeling of clarity and how my eyes relax when I put them on. And I suspect there is also a subconscious fascination with them because of their stereotypical connection to intellectual life.

That would have to be it. If my eyesight got so bad I could not function if someone accidentally broke my glasses. But the idea of a laser on my eyes scares me more than that hypothetical scenario, I think.

I've decided not to think about the idea of the laser on my eyes. Especially not now that I just got informed that most likely I'll have to get the most painful surgery with the longest recovery period.

Oh, dear. I'm sorry.
