1. Do you wear glasses or contacts?

I've worn glasses since I was eight years old. So more than 19 years now.

2. How bad/good is your eye sight?

Mine is fairly poor. My glasses are thicker than average. Without them on I can only see clearly up to about six or seven inches from my eyes, and beyond that is a heavy blur.

3. Would you ever consider getting your eyes lasered?

I'm not sure if it would work for me or not, but I have thought about the idea. I don't think I would want to. I'm so used to wearing glasses that I feel exposed and unprotected when I don't have them on. And they almost certainly saved my sight in one eye when I was younger.

(I was part of a group of kids throwing rocks at each other, over a long distance in a field where there wasn't much chance of actually hitting anyone, and one rock fell out of the sky and struck me directly on the lens of my glasses, with so much force that it bruised my eye socket, tore the glasses from my face, chipped the lens, and popped the lens right out of the frame. Without glasses, my eye could have been seriously injured.)

My glasses are comfortable and familiar. My girlfriend and I both have poor eyesight and have worn glasses for most of our lives. I don't think I would want to go without them, despite the disadvantages of relying on something that can be removed or damaged.

5. Would you be able to survive without glasses or contacts?

In my current state? No. I get a headache if I try operating for more than about 30 minutes without my glasses. The world is merely colours and blurred shapes. I would be lost in any situation where I could not rely on familiarity or context. Anything that involved reading would be difficult and in the long run literally painful.

6. If you would get laser surgery, what would your reasons be?

If I did, it would be so that I didn't have to rely on an external device in order to see. I don't care about the vanity side of things, how I would look without them or anything like that. And I wouldn't want to do it under any circumstances if my girlfriend didn't either; I wouldn't want to leave just one of us with glasses and the other without. And she looks really cute in glasses, so, y'know.

One of my main reasons for getting surgery is that my eye sight is rather poor. If I ever get into an emergency situation without my glasses or contacts, I'm unlikely to be doing well.

Yes, that is the only real downside that I can see too.
