If the solder won't flow is usually because there is not enough heat or there is some sort contaminate. I looks like this advice has already been given but flux helps with both issues. If something is acting as a heat sink it can also keep the solder from flowing becuase where you want solder is not getting hot enough. If you can safely use more heat that might help. Sometimes I preheat a whole piece with a heat gun to help with this.
Yeah the flux did the trick. I'm soldering lead came which has a melting temperature not that much above solder so really have to try and not get it hot...though I did manage to melt a bit this time. Very annoying. Thanks for the suggestion though
