Re: The results of the Gravity Probe B experiments: Einstein was right Camilla Send a noteboard - 07/05/2011 06:35:13 PM
I was surprised none of our resident physicists posted on this. At any rate. I remember them sending it up, and on Wednesday they announced the results: there is a space-time vortex around the Earth, just like Albert said. (Although I am not sure the result is "epic"...)

:P One of the downsides of physics is that while everyone loves it, people generally find the parts that you find interesting incredibly boring, or you get some sidetrack like LHC=doomsday machine. I wouldn't call it epic though, it seems to be about as big a story as Camilla, which I can't help but mention under the circumstances. But it is relatively important, pardon the pun, nothing really new, just a pretty impressive experiment to put together, we already knew GR held at that scale, it really only would have mattered if the results came out all screwy, so more an epic feat of design and engineering then a spawner of groundbreaking data.

Oh, I do find this exciting. Very much so. I was objecting to the annoying newfangled use of "epic".

So cool. (And part of the "epic" is that it took 47 years to finish) - 07/05/2011 04:36:41 PM 389 Views
That would make the experiment epic, not the result - 07/05/2011 04:38:04 PM 371 Views

Wasn't it already been proved with warping the light passing near Sun? *NM* - 07/05/2011 08:53:17 PM 239 Views
