So, I've been engaged for over a year now, and we haven't set a wedding date yet.
We've been engaged three months & have a tentative one... but it's a long way off now.
I like this, as I like being engaged. And planning a wedding sounds like an awful lot of work to me (and probably requires throwing a lot of money at it, too). I'm not really the kind of woman who's been planning her marriage since the age of 4.
I do have a vague sense that I want to throw a really cool party.
So on to the survey:
1. 'Did you ever attend a wedding? (if not, prob this survey isn't for you)
I've been to a few. Last summer was the summer of weddings as most of the people I grew up with were graduating college and tying the knot with their HS/college sweethearts.
2. Do you like weddings?
Sometimes.
3. Did you ever organize a wedding? (Was it your own?)
Working on it. I have very mixed feelings about wedding planning because I can be intensely shy and am not great at organizing stuff, but I love all the little artistic details and have dreamt about my wedding day since I was small. I think what I'd really like is to design and plan a wedding for someone else, then look at the photographs.
4. What was the best wedding you ever went to, and why was it so good? (cue for: my own, because I love my spouse so much! real intention of question is that I want to know what made the party fun)
When I was ten, one of my father's coworkers married an Indian bride and there were live elephants and I got to ride them.
Come on, how can you beat that?
5. What kind of wedding would you like to throw yourself (if you were to marry at some point)?
It will be traditional but small and cozy and hopefully fun. I will invest much time into tiny artistic details and projects that no one will notice, because that's what I do. Also, I do want to feel like a princess, just not a poufy ball-gown kind of princess.
Like Jen, I'm becoming aggressively non-fussed about the people aspect. I actually wanted a decent number of attendees (if we're spending all that money, we might as well have a good party, right?), but my groom and I live 2100 miles away from our hometown, so I don't know if many people will be able to come. At first I felt sad and lonely about this. Then I realized I can't do anything about it and I should just do my best to provide a great time for anyone who can make it.
6. Do you like traditional weddings, or ones that do something unique/funny?
I like both - whatever reflects the couple best. But even traditional weddings should be personal. I'm not a fan of the completely standard textbook wedding (very common in the Midwest).

If you don't want drama, don't invite family. Seriously, listen to the voice of experience here. *NM*

How can you *not* invite family? Family is all that matters. *NM*

That entirely depends on how you define family.

In your opinion. For me, as an example, it is the people I care for and respect that matter.
