Soul is just a concept. Sure, it's useful in religion but I think it's true purpose is poetic. Some poems just don't have the same effect if you can't use "soul".
Your soul calls for mine. Hope is a thing with feathers that perches on a soul. And my soul, from out that shadow, that lies floating on the floor, shall be lifted nevermore. The eternal soul. Our souls will burn in hell. Think of your eternal soul. What is hungrier, my stomach or my soul? Soul singers and soul food. Kitchen soup for the teenage soul.

Even though I'm writing a story involving souls, I'm an atheist and do not personally believe in souls. So before this, I'd not really given the soul concept much thought.
I probably should have asked this before my previous question. But the responses have really helped to show me that I should definitely get this pinned down for my story.
I would love to read your thoughts/definitions/beliefs about what souls are, as specific as you care to be.
This is all SO helpful for my story!!!
