I used to do post about the playoffs on Wotmania every spring, didn't make the transistion over here last year. Figured I try it out this spring. So anyway here's the matchups with a little commentary and my picks:
East:
Washington(1) vs. New York ( 8 )
Upset in the making. New York shut down Ovie this year. Ultimately I think Caps figure out Rangers. Capitals (Washington) in 6 games.
Philadelphia (2) vs. Buffalo (7)
Philly was trendy down the last month and look very beatable. I just don't think Buffalo has the offense to pull it out though. Flyers (Philadelphia) in 6 games.
Boston (3) vs. Montreal (6)
This is the marquee match-up for TV. It's going 7 games, it's going to be brutal smash mouth hockey. I say Montreal in 7 games.
Pittsburgh (4) vs. Tampa Bay (5)
Will Sid be back is what the Networks want to know. Everyone has different ideas on how to judge these two teams. I'll take Pittsburgh in 6 games.
West:
Vancouver (1) vs. Chicago ( 8 )
Not last years Hawks. Probably the easiest series to pick. Vancouver takes this one in 5.
San Jose (2) vs. Los Angeles (7)
Second easiest series to pick. L.A.'s #1 player is out, #2 player is hurt. Look for the Kings to be Shark bit in 5 games.
Detroit (3) vs. Phoenix (6)
This is my one upset call. Neither team is super star driven, they both play solid team hockey. Coyotes get the nod over the Wings based on goal tending. Coyotes (Phoenix ) win in 6 games.
Anaheim (4) vs. Nashville (5)
This is the series I'll be watching. Ducks offense is almost 50% based on their top line of Perry, Getzlaf, Ryan. I don't think the Predators (Nashville) top three scorers add up to Perry's 50 goals. But, in the season series Predators solved the Ducks offense. Ducks also are down to a single goal-tender who has a history of hot/cold. Really tough to choose this one "honestly" I'll give the nod to hometown Ducks (Anaheim) in a tough 7 game series.
