I think it contains your personality, but not necessarily (though probably, at least subconsciously) your memories. I think it contains your identity, your inseparable existence and essence, on a level that your synapses and DNA cannot, because its basic nature and structure cannot be altered as they can. It transcends the physical; everything about you, not only your personality traits but your physical structure, reflect it, rather than the reverse. In a universe where our senses indirectly report to a mass of flesh the various stimuli produced by ever shifting arrangements of transitory particles, your soul is the most real and permanent thing about you. It persists when all those things dissipate, because it depends on none of them, and is the reason a respirator and defibrillator will not revive an otherwise healthy man denied oxygen for half an hour.
