I'm not saying they don't have to know things to play football. I'm just saying it's not a course and you'd have problems making it into a full viable and justifiable course (particularly if you think liberal arts are useless!!).

It is not an academic endeavor. The sport has academic aspects to it, yes, and you can study it academically just like any subject...but that's not what these players are doing beyond what directly applies to their throw. They are engaging in gladiatorial exercise for the entertainment of those around them.

Do you see the difference I'm trying to make here? These players aren't "studying" football, although they may be applying concepts to their game. To say that a basketball player studies his sport like a biology student studies biology is inane, and I'm sure you agree. They're...they're the carpenter to the construction engineer, if you will? The players may play the game, but its the academics who STUDY it. I'm not sure that's a great metaphor :/ bach. i suck
