Prior to the Harry Potter and TLotR films it was largely a niche interest for a small segment of literary historians and celtophiles, with sporadic (but intense) attention from those who fancied themselves modern druids. Prior to PUBLICATION of TLotR few outside of the first two groups knew much more of it than The Sword in the Stone and vague memories of fairy tales read as children. Circumstances have, I think you'll agree, changed....

Quality creations in obscure areas can often benefit from wider exposure that comes naturally to quality offerings in more popular areas.
