Yes: It makes it worse. Joel Send a noteboard - 17/03/2011 12:45:12 AM
Here is the original bit we were given

This has to be a tough call for the environmentalists around the world. They're scrambling now to blame this on global warming

Reading that implies that Rush is claiming that that there are environmentalist out there actively claiming that global warming caused it.

Bit left out
have no doubt they're gonna try to claim global warming had something to do with the earthquake and the tsunami. Well of course they will.

But here when we look at what else he said it is clear that he is only claiming that they will blame it on it global warming. Not that much unlike my comment that some church nutter will blame it on gays.

Actually, context shows that he both claims it HAS happened and WILL happen yet offering zero proof for either. And we all know how awful it is to accuse someone of something without proof (remember: Even if he has tape of an environmentalist making the claim it's inadmissable unless we have every statement they've ever made for context! ) Worse, it shows him accusing environmentalists of ALREADY doing it (without evidence, let alone proof) in the course of a series of jokes about multiple disasters that have killed thousands. Then he tuts Obama for carelessly referring to our alliance with Japan as "unshakeable" (though I agree that was a poor choice of words; presumably that Limbaugh accusation was actually truthful, but wtf knows at this point?)
As for the other, saying that he claiming the extra few centimeters of sea level we can blame on global warming was a factor doesn't really go very far in defending him. I think I had more respect for him when is was unclear what he meant.

Understandable; no one in this thread has tried to defend that comment either in context or otherwise. As I've said from the start, it was a clumsy link, and an exploitive tactic, and I believe snoop has said much the same. See how easy it is to condemn shameful behavior even from political allies?

You need to reread what I said - 16/03/2011 10:49:45 PM 595 Views

No. You don't get to say, "what he said doesn't matter because of how we learned of it". - 16/03/2011 11:54:46 PM 626 Views
I told you, I'm done in this thread - 16/03/2011 11:59:08 PM 593 Views

I think Republicans should stop using "legitimate". I do not think it means what they think it means - 16/03/2011 04:11:14 PM 718 Views
there are enough carzies on the left to make things like this easy for Rush - 16/03/2011 04:20:47 PM 669 Views
So it doesn't matter that no one said it as long as he can plausibly claim they did. - 16/03/2011 06:58:17 PM 591 Views
well since it is taken out of context it is hard to say where Rush was going with it - 16/03/2011 07:19:46 PM 687 Views
Um... he stated where he was going with it. - 16/03/2011 07:30:02 PM 658 Views
At least you are not ashamed to use a double standard - 16/03/2011 08:17:39 PM 602 Views
It's the same standard, whatever you choose to believe. - 16/03/2011 09:08:01 PM 725 Views
I don't thinkit is as clear as you make it out to be - 16/03/2011 09:31:53 PM 615 Views
It is not just "possible" he's talking about islands affected by global warming; he says it outright - 16/03/2011 10:09:16 PM 775 Views
Sorry but I still fail to see how the islands he mention are a sign of what needs to be done - 16/03/2011 10:27:20 PM 655 Views
Hey, guys! - 16/03/2011 10:55:07 PM 551 Views
and how its that different than what I said? *NM* - 16/03/2011 11:14:46 PM 250 Views
Then you don't understand context and this whole discussion is pointless. - 16/03/2011 11:28:47 PM 733 Views
lets throw a little context at asnd see if it matters - 17/03/2011 12:12:03 AM 619 Views
