Where exactly are you stationed? Jeordam Send a noteboard - 07/03/2011 08:23:55 PM
Are you up at Camp Pendleton...or Coronado...or Miramar? Depending on where you actually are (and if you have a car or not) will really make a difference. I've lived here all of my life, so I know the area pretty well. What kind of things do you want to see/experience?

The beaches are good...wherever you happen to be stationed. Obviously if you're at Pendleton, you have one right there. If you're more in the mood for the outdoors-y type thing...there is hiking and all sorts of stuff like that at Torry Pines, and the different nature reserves which pretty much cover the entire county (from wetlands to desert)

If you want nightlife (restraunts/bars/dancing), there's everything from the GasLamp District (downtown SD), Hillcrest (LGBT friendly), and pretty much the "villiage" of every little beach community down the coast.

If you want things to "see", The San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, Sea World, and the museums of Balboa park are all there. If you're up for Baseball, Petco Park is awsome, and your home team very well may be playing there.

A word of warning, however, is if you're planning on going into Tijuanna. Of course, you will need a passport to come back over, but if you are a Marine, check with your superior officer before you go (If you're younger then 21). Although the drinking age in Mexico is 18 so you could drink there legally, it is still against the rules of all the Marines stationed in San Diego County. They have a requirement that you must be a certain age (over 21) as well as have a certain rank in order to go back and forth across the border. The Border Patrol guys know of this rule, and they will nark you out in a heartbeat if you don't meet those requirements.

San Diego isn't a huge, busy city. Its actually very laid back...Great weather, wonderful food, and just generally being a place you don't want to move away from.
