I think they've held out so long because of the coffee

The marketing strategy is pretty straightforward and effective, but the rise of alternative avenues and I'd say the drop off in people willing to blow $3 or $4 on a Cup of Joe has spelled their Doom. Pity though, I don't go as much as I used to, and I go mostly to B&N these days, but I still like the setup, get mocha, grab book, relax, drink, read, buy book, finish at home.

You are the exception though, at least in terms of the book selection.

5 of the 6 Borders stores near me are closing, and, I have to say, I'm not a bit upset.

B&N tends to have the better selection for my tastes, but I prefer Border's atmosphere. *NM*
