If I were living in Iraq I'd find a reason to claim asylum. There are a lot of other places in the Middle East that I think I'd try to leave as quickly as possible. Just because people are asking for asylum doesn't mean you have some sort of obligation to provide it.

The simple fact is that you have to understand that you're setting yourselves up for MASSIVE social unrest by opening the floodgates to people who don't share your values. Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of Iraqis who accept Western values without major and jarring caveats, but they're still probably in an extreme minority relative to the entire population.
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
