I prefer a company that doesn't make me call customer service at all. I wouldn't brag on Apple for fixing a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place. Not trying to say Dell makes a better product than Apple, just saying if it were me, shoddy workmanship isn't something I'd applaud a company for, regardless of how quickly they fixed it.
But my iPod did work for nearly three years without a single issue. And considering the many millions that they produce, while defective manufacturing isn't something that anyone wants, it's bound to happen. I am pleased that I did not have to jump through any hoops to get to who I needed to speak to and am being given a free replacement. Maybe I expect so little that I am so happy with being given something for free that was not my fault. If so, that says more about me than it does about Apple.

Uh... duh? The issue is when people extrapolate from this that Apple > PC.
